When the engine is working, the friction surfaces (such as crankshaft journal and bearing, camshaft journal and bearing, piston ring and cylinder wall, timing gear pair, etc.) move relatively at a high speed, and the friction between metal surfaces Not only increases the power consumption inside the engine, but also causes the working surfaces of the parts to wear quickly; the heat generated by the friction may also melt the surface of some working parts, causing the engine to not operate normally. Therefore, in order to ensure the normal operation of the engine, the surface of the relatively moving parts in the engine must be lubricated, that is, the friction surface is covered with a lubricant (engine oil or grease), so that a thin film of oil is spaced between the metal surfaces to reduce Friction resistance, reduce power loss, reduce wear and tear, extend engine life.
The basic task of the lubrication system is to continuously supply clean, pressured, and temperature-appropriate oil to the friction surfaces of moving parts, so that the engine can work normally. For this reason, the pressure lubrication system must have an oil pump to establish sufficient oil pressure for pressure lubrication and ensure oil circulation, a container for storing oil (generally using oil sump to store oil), processed by the lubricating oil pipe and on the engine body Circulating oil circuit composed of a series of lubricating oil channels. There must also be a device to limit the maximum oil pressure in the oil circuit-pressure limiting valve, which can be attached to the oil pump or can be set separately
The function of the lubrication system is to continuously deliver a sufficient amount of clean engine oil with adequate temperature to the friction surfaces of all transmission parts when the engine is working, and form an oil film between the friction surfaces to achieve liquid friction. Thereby reducing frictional resistance, reducing power consumption, and reducing wear of machine parts, so as to achieve the purpose of improving engine reliability and durability
